August 2025 Development Log
August 25th, 2025
I've been receiving questions like, what's going on with Chiralis? Is Chiralis dead?? Will Chiralis ever support feature X? Sometimes, I don't exactly know the answer to those questions myself! But in the spirit of better transparency, I've decided to start a (hopefully monthly) dev blog to let all you lovely people know what's going on behind the scenes.
So, let's be honest — Chiralis has definitely languished for the past two years. That's on me, and I won't make any excuses. The goal from now on is steady progress, a little bit at a time, to avoid burning out. And if work on Chiralis has to get put on the backburner for a bit, I promise to tell you. To that end, this blog is also a way to keep me honest, and keeping that line of communication with you, dear user, open.
That's enough introduction; the meat of these posts is going to be introducing what work has been done in the past month, as well as what's on the roadmap and upcoming features. Patch notes, if you will. So let's dive into it!
The main new feature is that you can now select arbitrary colors for your notes! Your most recent colors are also saved so you can quickly make a whole bunch of related notes. Go wild with organizing anything you can think of.
I've also made a few smaller improvements and bug fixes that should hopefully make your editing experience a little smoother.
- Fixed a bug where deleting a note wouldn't immediately cause connections to it to disappear
- Gzip compression is enabled for large assets; users on slower internet connections should see significantly faster load times on the editor
- Certain settings, like where you're currently looking on a board and whether grid snapping is on, are now stored per-device
That's it for August. As for upcoming features, the major focus for September is going to be getting Chiralis usable on mobile, and creating a mobile UI. Look forward to it!
