January 2026 Development Log

Hello Chiralis people!

This month's update is fairly quiet; personal events have taken up a lot of my time and left precious little for development. What time I've been able to spare on Chiralis has been spent investigating performance issues, particularly around when a board grows to have a fair amount of notes in it. Nothing conclusive has come up as a root cause just yet, but through that investigation I've learned a lot about some of the tools that I'm using.

I've been receiving questions like, what's going on with Chiralis? Is Chiralis dead?? Will Chiralis ever support feature X? Sometimes, I don't exactly know the answer to those questions myself! But in the spirit of better transparency, I've decided to start a (hopefully monthly) dev blog to let all you lovely people know what's going on behind the scenes.

So, let's be honest — Chiralis has definitely languished for the past two years. That's on me, and I won't make any excuses. The goal from now on is steady progress, a little bit at a time, to avoid burning out. And if work on Chiralis has to get put on the backburner for a bit, I promise to tell you. To that end, this blog is also a way to keep me honest, and keeping that line of communication with you, dear user, open.
